Refunds

General

The Bursar's Office processes student account refunds via EFT, also known as direct deposit. Refunds and overpayments are electronically disbursed to the student's checking or savings account. This makes the refund process quick, easy and more secure than mailing a paper check to the student. Signing up is simple. For more information on how to sign up, click direct deposit.

If you are a student employee of Georgia Tech and have signed up for direct deposit of your paycheck, the Bursar's Office refund process is through a different system and you must sign up separately or you will not receive your student refund in a timely manner.

Refunds and overpayments are processed Monday through Friday and should be in the student's account within 48 hours. If a refund is processed via a paper check, receiving it may take longer.

During registration, EFT refunds resulting from excess Financial Aid disbursements are processed daily.

Parent PLUS Loan Refunds

Parent PLUS loan refunds can be electronically deposited or mailed directly to the parent's address listed on the loan application. Parent PLUS loan refunds may only be placed in the student's direct deposit account if the Bursar's Office receives an authorization letter stating this request. All authorization letters must include the student's name, GT ID number, and parent's signature. You will only be required to submit the authorization letter once while at Georgia Tech unless there is a change to the Parent PLUS loan. Once the authorization letter has been received, all Parent PLUS loan refunds are processed to the student's direct deposit account.

Dropped/Withdrawn Classes

Students must formally withdraw according to policies established by the Office of the Registrar in order to receive a refund. For refund dates and percentages, review the registration refund calendar. If you are a financial aid recipient, you should consult with your financial aid adviser before adjusting your registration schedule.
